Canadian
Centre of Architecture
The centre is a museum dedicated to the art of the architecture,
founded on the conviction that the architecture, as a
part of the social and natural atmosphere, is a public
preoccupation. The activities are based on a unique collection
of art and documentation of cultures through the world
and all the disciplines that take part in the construction,
from the architecture to the urban planning and landscape
design.
The museum building contains the exhibition galleries,
a theatre and the library. The new building is integrated
with the Shaughnessy house, constructed in 1874 according
to the W.T. Thomas design, and classified as a historical
monument by the governments of Quebec and Canada. The
garden is an exceptional example of public space, that
evokes the rich history of the landscaping design, and
was constructed like part of the program of the government
of Quebec for the integration of the art, the architecture
and the landscape.
