The
Northern Territories
The northern regions of Canada -the States of Yukon, Northwest
Territories and Nunavut -, are the places inhabited by
the so called inuit, the first settlers of the country.
Here the cold and the snow are a constant almost every
month of the year, hiding one of the most beautiful areas
of Canada. The Northwest Territories includes the State
of Nunavut, the land yielded by the Canadian government
to the inuit.
The tundra dominates the landscape, marked by very low
temperatures and rich ecosystems in fauna and flora. Here
it is possible to enjoy the vision of animals as elks,
beavers, red foxes, black bears, caribous, bisons, polar
bears and seals.
In the west zone there are two Natural Parks that well
deserve a visit: Woos Buffalo and Nahanni. In this region
is necessary to know the Baffin Island, the home of good
part of the inuit population of Canada.
Dawson is the former epicentre of the gold fever. Here
the visitor can enjoy excursions by the Bonanza streams,
where gold was discovered for the first time, and by the
Moosehide Village. The State Capital is Whitehose, a small
city where it’s the Visitors Reception Centre, that
offers audio-visual information on the region. The Anglican
cathedral and the Macbride Museum deserve a visit, with
their collection of objects used by the gold prospectors.
Between his many Natural Parks it outstands the one of
Kluane, with his glaciers and eagle and Dall ewes reservations.
